As much as I love watching YouTube videos, I also enjoying reading about the creators, their content, and their stories' (which I assume you do too, if you're here on my blog ;]). I recently stumbled up an article about Sineady Cady of TheMakeupChair.
The article, by Theresa Cramer of EContentMag.com, raved about Sineady's impressive makeup skills, useful tutorials, and lovely accent. (Her accent is really, really wonderful. It's one of the primary reasons her videos are some of my favorites)
I learned that Sineady lives in Ireland! Did any of you know this?? No wonder her voice is so beautiful. I couldn't help but agree with the author: Sineady (whose name is really Sinead) puts out some of the most informative videos of all in the YouTube beauty world. Her videos aren't just showing you how she does her makeup. Sineady truly uses her channel to educate viewers on the best ways to do it themselves.
Recently, she's posted a video about how do eyeliner that is just right for your personal eye shape, how to grow out your eyebrows & fill them in, and how to create longer, thicker lashes (umm, what girl wouldn't want that??) On her channel, you will find every type of video you may be interested in and, no matter what look Sineady is going for, she'll show you, step-by-step, how to rock it.
Also, her videos are super short. Most are around two minutes & there aren't many longer than five minutes. This is another thing I just love about TheMakeupChair channel.

I'm just a sucker for any tutorial featuring purple shadow, pretty much.
The focal point of the article was the power of video. As a journalism and media studies major, my education is focused on the changes in media and how crucial it is within society and the changes in imposes on our culture. The author notes how much easier YouTube makeup tutorials are to follow than "some step-by-step guide in Seventeen." I'm sure most within the YouTube beauty community would find this to be true; I know I certainly would.
This is not to discredit textual makeup instructions, at all. However, as Cramer writes, "video is a super medium." It has the power to connect with the viewer and educate in a way that written steps simply can't. Additionally, and probably most importantly, it's engaging. I believe that's likely what we all enjoy most. We can hear their voice, see their technique, and understand a, bit better, just what they're doing.
YouTube stars are successful because their trade is so easy to connect with. After watching just a few videos, especially of Sineady's, you know their personality. It's easy to feel like you know them personally! This is why so many popular gurus have an incredibly large, loyal following. They're able to create an experience, through video, that keeps viewers coming back.

And let's be honest - we all come back.
